Using Accuride Stainless Steel slides in a Marine environment

Accuride’s range of stainless steel slides are generally suitable for many Marine associated applications.

Stainless steel is a much better choice than zinc plated steel or aluminium in such environments, but even this can corrode over time if continually exposed to seawater.  Grades that have a higher chromium content, such as Austenitic grades, are more resistant in Marine applications, and generally perform well if not submerged in seawater.

All of Accuride’s DS range of stainless steel slides use grade 304 (AISI 304 / 1.4301), which is an austenitic grade with a high corrosion resistance, and will generally perform well in such environments.

It is important to avoid direct exposure to seawater, and regular rinsing with fresh water is recommended to prevent salt build-up over time.  Ensuring that the slides are adequately greased is also recommended, and will extend the usable life.
